If you are reading this newsletter somehow you are involved in recycling in one form or another. Kimmel Scrap is one part of an industry that recycles over 130 million metric tons of products every year. This includes ferrous, non-ferrous, paper and plastics. Our industry employs more than 506,000 people from direct to indirect positions. We have more than 117-billion-dollar economic impact just in the U.S.
Over 70% of all new U.S. manufactured steel and stainless products are made with recycled scrap metal. There are many new and refurbished steel mills being built domestically which are environmentally friendlier than previous and economically more financially efficient. More than 75% of recycled scrap is used domestically vs. export to other countries. Those are some numbers to cheer about.
