To The Loyal Customers of Kimmel Scrap Iron & Metal

Happy New Year!

We hope you were able to spend valuable time with family and friends this holiday season. All of us work hard all year long it is nice to reflect and spend some long weekends with our loved ones.

While much of 2016 was not very scrap friendly, December bucked the traditional year-end trend and we saw a nice increase to round out the year. Although it is early in the month it appears 2017 will pick up where 2016 left as we are poised for another increase in scrap prices in January.

There is some renewed optimism in the scrap metal industry heading into the New Year and many believe 2017 will bring better prices than 2016. Some of the optimism for January stems from the bulk exports sold at up prices the last week of 2016. A couple of examples for 2017’s optimism are the anti-dumping duties are having an effect on the influx of imported steel from China. This is curtailing the oversupply of finished goods from China. Another is a new mill in Arkansas that came on line late in the year that expects to consume nearly two million tons of scrap metal annually. This should keep scrap from traveling outside of our region by having our local mills pay to keep the scrap local benefiting all parties.

I hope this optimism carries over into other aspects of our businesses and 2017 will be a Safe and Happy New Year.
