To the Loyal Customers of Kimmel Scrap,
To say the last three years have not been interesting would be an understatement. We are poised to see the first three consecutive months of price increases in three years. In our industry 2015 was a total loser, and for 10 months of 2016 the same. I have attached a chart showing the volatility in the ferrous scrap metal market and the unpredictability as well.
It is expected that the strength in the steel market should last thru March 2017. A few factors that work in our favor is the slowdown in foreign scrap substitutes arriving on our shore and the ability of our domestic steelmakers to use domestic scrap in almost all melts.
An unexpected surge in optimism appears to be the election of Donald Trump. His rallying cry to improve the infrastructure and bring jobs back home seems to have at least a psychological lift in our industry.
