To the loyal customers of Kimmel Scrap.

I would like to take a moment to talk this month about distracted driving. Last week a trucking contractor that we work with was hit while sitting at a Michigan turn around. The driver was unhurt but unfortunately the women who struck him did not survive. This was believed to be caused by distracted driving. It only takes a split second of not paying attention to change your life or someone else’s.

Distracted driving can come in many forms. Looking at our phones, talking on our phones, thinking about how busy our schedules are, and many other things. We let our drivers know that the most important thing they have to worry about while at work is being safe. That includes requiring them to use headsets or silence their phones while driving.

As we come into summer a new hazard will be presenting itself, young people no longer in school. Children who might normally be located at school during most of the working day are now spread near and far. They go to the park, friend’s houses, and summer jobs. These younger people don’t have the life experience to know that a tractor trailer needs 100’s of feet to stop, and that the blind spots on these vehicles are truly huge. They are also the ones most likely to be looking at their phones while driving. I would encourage all of you to talk with your family members, drivers and other employees about distracted driving. We all have families on the roads and we want to see them when we get home.

If there is anything that Kimmel Scrap Iron and Metal can do, our team of highly experienced drivers are ready to deliver or exchange containers for you.
